Adaptive Reuse
Interior Design

Flexibility has become essential in extending the life and relevance of contemporary spaces. For the Etcha project, the design explores how interiors can remain adaptable and timeless while still responding intimately to present-day experiences. Central to this concept is the curtain—an ancient architectural element reinterpreted as a soft and fluid spatial boundary.

Rather than relying on rigid partitions, layers of drapery define and transform the interior, allowing spaces to shift seamlessly between openness and intimacy. Curtains introduce movement, texture, and atmosphere, creating a setting that feels both adaptable and emotionally engaging. This approach enables the restaurant to evolve through changing functions, lighting conditions, and guest experiences over time.

The dining experience is conceived as a form of culinary theater. Much like a chef working on the blank canvas of a white table and plate, the interior is intentionally restrained, allowing cuisine, presentation, and light to become the focal point. Carefully controlled lighting highlights the texture, color, and craftsmanship of each dish, elevating every course into an artistic composition.

Minimal yet richly atmospheric, the space balances softness with opulence. Draped surfaces, layered shadows, and subtle material contrasts create a dreamlike environment where light and darkness continuously shape the perception of the room. The result is an immersive dining experience that feels timeless, intimate, and quietly transformative.
