Located on Bang Tao Beach in Bangtao, Casuarina Beach Club sits within one of Phuket’s most active beachfront dining areas, where offerings range from casual venues to high-end restaurants. The project positions itself through a clear identity and spatial experience rather than scale or spectacle.
The design is a renovation and adaptive reuse of an existing structure. Instead of rebuilding, the project works within the original framework, introducing a revised layout and new material language suited to its current use. This approach extends the building’s lifespan while aligning it with the evolving character of the beachfront.
A key driver is the development of a strong visual identity. Branding is embedded into the architecture through the consistent use of color, material, texture, and motif. A vibrant palette and bold surface treatments reflect the energy of the food and social setting, creating a space that is distinct yet controlled.
Material selection follows the idea of barefoot luxury, focusing on comfort, durability, and tactile quality. Textured finishes, including fluted wood and gold-layered coatings, are used to create a sensory experience through touch. These are complemented by subtle reflective elements and soft lighting, allowing the atmosphere to shift naturally throughout the day.
The spatial layout is open and flexible, allowing dining, lounging, and circulation to overlap. A slightly playful design language, with abstracted tribal references, adds rhythm without becoming literal. The experience transitions from a relaxed daytime setting to a more intimate evening environment, with sunset acting as a key moment that anchors the overall spatial sequence.
Casuarina Beach Club balances adaptive reuse, branding, and materiality to create a setting that is both functional and memorable within a competitive beachfront context.
